Every other week each of our writers shares the song that made his/her week just a little bit brighter…

RustyCat
Cigarettes, Wedding Bands by Band of Horses
Yes, it’s true, it’s finally here, the new Band of Horses album, Cease to Begin, is officially out October 9th. From the first few listens it’s a great album. I personally love their previous album and am a big Horses fan. I’ll review the full album later on, but for now listen to the song I’ve been repeating all week, I love the guitars!

Mozzer
Fri/End by Thurston Moore
Striking out on his own, Moore assumes a Paul Westerberg-like quality on this one. An upbeat acoustic guitar and spirited string section makes for a light, 3 minute confection.

D Thompson
Summertime Blues by T-Rex
It was sweating hot in the room, gearing up on another Arizona summer. VonSchmidt passed me his bong and picked up the first T.Rex album I’d ever seen. In that way you speak, when you’re trying not to exhale, he said “These guys are excellent.” Then he dropped the needle on this enganging cover of Summertime Blues, exhaling thin blue smoke into the light coming through the curtains. There ain’t no cure for the summertime.

Charbarred
Guyamas Sonora by Beirut
This is just beautiful. I wasn’t very happy with Beirut’s last album, but the new one is wonderful. The serene vocals, the horns the accordions and the almost tribal drums take me to that exact place I want to be.

Danielle
El Caminos in the West by Grandaddy
My grandaddy had an el camino. What more can I say? No, really I love Grandaddy and their smooth flowing sound. Seeing them live is a real treat!

Alibastard
Summertime Rolls by Jane’s Addiction
As summer cools and starts to retreat, this haunting, excitable number fuses a portrait of the brightest month with the mood of its successor - is something I’ve been revolving in my mind all week, despite its age. Enjoy the spook as it sneaks up on the foliage and prepair for
that brisk excitement of cold.

Lee H
Add Orable Ord by Kelpie
Kelpie is a rock band from Lawrence, KS. Their entire album “Hey Friends, It’s Kelpie” is worth your time and money. Kelpie is also a supernatural shape-shifting water horse from Celtic folklore that is believed to haunt the rivers and lochs of Scotland and Ireland. If you ever see this Kelpie don’t give it your time or your money. Much like the Loch Ness Monster, he’ll only break your heart. Please don’t get them confused.

Kendall
Bethamphetamine by Butch Walker
Butch Walker has quickly become one of the hottest young producers in the music scene. He’s worked with Avril Lavigne, Hinder, Tommy Lee, SR71, Pink, and many others. Most of these artists even used songs penned by Butch himself. What confuses me here, is how a guy like this can have all of these artists scoring huge hits off of his songs, and still not make blow up as an artist himself. I’ve decided to throw a little credit where it’s due and recognize Butch Walker with my song of the week. It’s poppy catchy fun at it’s best.

So what’s your song of the week?

Band of Horses does have nice guitars. The T-Rex cover is perfect for smoking whatever DThompson was smoking. I've always loved the mellowness of Grandaddy. Kelpie sounds a tad beatles-eque, which is a good thing. The Butch Walker was probably my favorite. It's a Tie with Grandaddy.

Charbarred, Alibastard : Error opening file. Or, as I like to call it, two wonderful renditions of the Tacet Symphony.

Hmm...the songs worked this morning. Anyway, I fixed them problem, feel free to bask in the greatness that is Jane's Addiction (and Beirut as well).

Great songs this week although I could not play Charbarred and Alibastard's songs. I kept getting the message "error opening file". Also I couldn't hear more then 5 seconds of Danielle's song, but what a five seconds it was. So because my listening was incomplete, my fav list is pathetically short. Without further ado........drum roll please.......KENDALL. So for having my favorite song this week I award to you absolutely nothing, redeemable at any location worldwide. DT's and Mozzers song were pretty good to.

Guyamas Sonora by Beirut is a great song. and also Rusty's pick is great too, i love band of horses, but their new album is a bit repetitive and un-innovating , it's the same as their debut.

Dear Mr. Thompson...After last time's glowing success of putting the songs together in the perfect order, I was under a lot of pressure to find a way to mix these songs together...I thought long an hard about it and ended just shuffling them all erratically. I'm happy to take suggestions on the order of the songs and update this post by the end of the day...Any takers?
